In the Barbagia region, immersed in the Supramonte, surrounded by thick forests and splendid oleanders, we find the most impressive natural gorge of Itay and Europe, the Gorrupu gorge.
The so-called “Grand Canyon of Europe, which exceeds 400 meters of height. The gorge, whose base is covered with enormous white stone boulders, smooth and worn down by time, is a tremendous scar between the Supramonte of Orgosolo and that of Urzulei, a thin crack carved through the passage of millennia the waters of the Flumineddu: the river flows through and then leaves the canyon, opening itself in minuscule ponds and exiting below towards the Dorgali valley where it feeds various sources. You can reach it by foot, in about two hours, following a path that follows the Flumineddu which brings us all the way to the mouth of the gorge, in an incredibly beautiful scene. To be admired are the blossoms of the oleander which follow the river Flumineddu as it flows toward the sea.
The best time for the excursion is in the Spring or the Summer.
